Our client is currently seeking a Principal Compute / Virtualization Engineer for their private cloud platform.

This role will participate in driving architecture, design and implementation of worldwide private cloud platform to compete with cloud offerings from VMware, Nutanix, Amazon and Microsoft.


This individual will be responsible for architecture, detailed design and implementation of all aspects of the OS, virtualization and containerization aspects of the platform.

This is a principal-level position within software development, and in a highly collaborative environment working directly with Development, QA, Operations and Product Management teams across geographies.

Must-have competences

  • Master's Degree or PhD degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering (with programming skills/experience) or Computer Science (with hardware skills/experience) or, equivalent practical experience, such as:
  1. Provable leadership and hand on role developing award or market winning storage SW and HW platforms;
  2. Peer reviewed research papers or books in the Compute Virtualization and/or Containerization;
  3. Patent portfolio demonstrating innovation in Compute Virtualization and/or Container areas;
  4. Author or core developer for industry leading Compute Virtualization and/or Container frameworks.
  • Lead and drive architecture to create and deliver programmable, full stack software and hardware infrastructure, working with the engineering team, partners and cross-functional teams;
  • Be a hands-on engineer; ensure software built is well designed, secure, privacy-preserving, robust and of high quality;
  • Work with customers, fellow principal engineers, architects, product management, etc. to articulate and shape the technical roadmap, drive bold product directions, and seek out innovative opportunities that have high impact in a fast-moving market;
  • Be an effective spokesperson and champion for the engineering teams and an advocate for Compute Virtualization activities for their private cloud platform;
  • Mentor and develop engineers to build a strong engineering bench. Promote a culture of innovation, pride, performance, and disciplined execution;
  • Help recruit and maintain excellent and diverse engineering talent. Work effectively and lead a geographically distributed team;
  • Experience developing and shipping commercial SW product or developing and supporting commercial SaaS platform;
  • Experience in Linux, Linux kernel, Linux virtualization, Linux containerization, Docker, CRIO, RunC and Kubernetes;
  • Hypervisor knowledge mainly focusing KVM, libvirt, ovirt, QEMU, ESXi, Xen, HyperV, VirtualBox;
  • Extensive experience with C, C++, Java, Python, Golang and bash development;
  • Understanding and experience with Boost C libraries;
  • Advanced networking, virtualization, containerization and storage infrastructure and technology experience;
  • CI/CD experience including use of Git, Gerrit and Jenkins or other similar CI/CD tools and platforms;
  • OpenStack, VMWare vCloud or SDDS, AWS, Azure experience highly desired;
  • Cloud API development/debug experience;
  • RESTful API development experience;
  • Understanding of Cloud Security;
  • Excellent communications skills – able to work with teams across cultures fostering trust and collaboration. Comfortable presenting to large groups and executives.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with CI/CD tools like GIT/Jenkins etc.;
  • Experience conducting concept and usability testing and gathering feedback;
  • Experience with VMWare, OpenStack and other cloud technologies desired.
